This qualification is suitable for corporate employees who apply project management skills and knowledge either as part of a large project team, or personally in support of their primary roles. Job titles for these roles may include contracts officers, project administrators, quality officers and small business operators.
Employees in these roles might be members of a project team, with no direct responsibility for overall project outcomes. Primarily, these roles would support wider project operations. They may use project tools and methodologies selectively to support organisational or business activities.
In line with the national packaging rules for this qualification, there are 10 units of competency.

The training is an eight (8) day face-to-face program scheduled over two modules in a six month period.
Students will be expected to compete assessment tasks in class as well as between the face to face modules and after the second module.
Due to the holistic nature of the program, it requires an eight (8) day face-to-face commitment and there are no credits for partial completion. Only completion of all assessment elements of the program will result in the award of a BSB41515 Certificate IV in Project Management Practice.
Student support and monitoring of self-directed (unsupervised) activities will be via email and phone support to the MTS Trainer/Assessor and/or dedicated Client Administrator.
MTS will develop individual study plans for participants in the event that they are unable to attend a module due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance. Please note that this is on a case by case basis.
The first four days will be dedicated to providing high level delivery of the key techniques in project scope as well as project time, HR and communication management. A simulated project management exercise (A) is introduced with candidates working on this during the first four day block. The emphasis is on working as a project team.
During the second four day block the content focuses on the critical issues of cost, quality, risk, contract and procurement procedures. The candidates continue working as a project team on Project A.
Project A –– The Library Project.
This simulated project builds on a scenario that is presented during the face–to–face delivery component of the course and is used for formative assessment.
The project is supplied to every candidate at the start of the course. Candidates can see how the scenario builds across the units and qualification. There are instructions and checklists that clearly set out how the candidate will complete and submit a suite of documents and written responses to questions across the project.
Within the course, there are a series of unit by unit formative assessments. Some of these assessment activities relate to the Library Project scenario where small groups work together. This provides the Assessor with the opportunity to closely observe the teamwork, communication and presentation skills, negotiation and problem solving skills and time management that are explicit in some units and across the employability skills.
The in-course activities also allow for demonstrated application of project management methodology and underpinning knowledge.
Project B – Project Lift.
A second project gathers evidence across the qualification and is used for summative assessment. This will begin in class time and completed in the candidates’ own time.
This project is based on procurement of a fleet of trucks mounted with a crane to transport containers. This project is typical of a common Department of Defence procurement, through tender and involves typical logistical considerations that suit that client in particular. For inhouse/company training requirements MTS can replace this project (at a cost) with an alternative to suit specific organisational requirements.
There are instructions for 36 sequenced and layered tasks that clearly set out how the candidate will complete written responses and submit a suite of documents across the project.
They are expected to complete Project B – Project Lift within 12 weeks of course completion.
A Third Party Report is required to be submitted within 12 weeks of course completion showing the candidate’s ability to apply skills in the workplace.
